Built on the belief that the right advisor changes everything.

We find many advisors lead with credentials. I'd rather lead with this: I've been through enough difficult things in my own life that when a client sits across from me worried about their future, I'm not just listening professionally. I understand personally. That's what shapes everything about how I work.

Andy's Story

1 MIN READ

I grew up watching my parents navigate real financial pressure. When I was seven, my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He survived — but those years were frightening, and they left a mark on me that I carry to this day. I learned early that financial stability isn't an abstract goal. It's the thing that holds a family together when everything else feels uncertain.

That lesson stayed with me. Years later, I went through a divorce with three young children. I know what it feels like to rebuild — financially and personally — while trying to keep life stable for kids who are watching your every move. Clients who've been through divorce or lost a spouse often tell me they feel understood in a way they haven't elsewhere. I think that's because I'm not just nodding along. I've been there.

My mother passed away a few years ago after a long struggle with MS. I watched the emotional and financial toll of serious illness up close — the costs, the uncertainty, the way it reshapes everything a family thought they had planned. That experience deepened something already built into who I am: an instinct to protect.

At my core, that's what I am. A protector. I want my clients to be in good positions, to have strategies working for them, and to know without a doubt that they can be confident about their retirement plan.

I relocated to Palm Springs years ago and partnered with my father to build a financial practice from the ground up. We focused entirely on people approaching and entering retirement — the stage of life where the stakes are often the highest, and the margin for error is smallest. That focus has never changed.

Over the course of my career, I've worked with business owners navigating complex exits, educators who were being underserved by advisors who didn't understand their pensions, families rebuilding after divorce, and retirees trying to make sense of a financial landscape nobody prepared them for.

I've owned multiple businesses across different industries, so I understand what it means to build something with your own hands and then figure out how to step away from it wisely. My wife has spent her career as an elementary school principal. My family is full of educators — teachers, administrators, superintendents — and after watching the quality of advice they were receiving, I made it a personal priority to do better for people in that profession.

I didn't get into this work for the transactions. I got into it for the conversations — the ones where someone finally exhales because they have a plan they believe in. That's the moment I'm working toward with every client.

 What we're here to do.

Hansen Financial exists to give people clarity, confidence, and control at the stage of life when it matters most.

We believe that retirement planning shouldn't feel like guesswork — and that every person, regardless of wealth, deserves a real plan built around their real life. Our job is to protect what you've built, structure it so it lasts, and make sure you understand every decision along the way.

We don't measure success by assets under management. We measure it by whether our clients can stop worrying about money and start living the retirement they worked for.

Our Proceess

The SHIFT Process.

We find most people arrive at retirement with the pieces — savings, accounts, a pension, maybe a business interest or two. What they don't have is a plan that connects them. That's what SHIFT is designed to do.

It's not a checklist. It's a process designed to give you three things by the end: clarity on where you stand, a structure built around your life, and a team in your corner for what comes next.

Here's how we get there.

See the full picture

Before anything else, we understand what you've built and what you need it to do.

Retirement planning can fail when it starts with products instead of people. We start differently — with you.

We take time to understand your full financial picture before making a single recommendation.

Your assets, income sources, and obligations

Is your withdrawal strategy tax-efficient?

Do you have enough guaranteed income to cover your non-negotiables?

Are there gaps in your coverage that could disrupt the plan?

You can't build a reliable income strategy on an incomplete map.

Honest assessment

Once we see the full picture, we tell you the truth about it.

That includes the good news — what's working, what's already well-positioned — and the harder conversations about exposure, inefficiency, and risk you may not have accounted for.

Are you exposed to sequence-of-returns risk?

Your timeline and spending needs

Your lifestyle goals and family priorities

Legacy questions you may not have fully answered yet

The fears that may be keeping you up at night

This is where most planning stops being comfortable and starts being useful.

Income architecture

This is the core of what we do.

Income Architecture means designing consistent retirement income — one that accounts for where your money will come from, in what order, at what tax cost, and for how long.

We look at every source and sequence them intentionally.

Social Security timing and pension elections

Portfolio withdrawals in the right order, at the right tax cost

Annuity income, rental or business income, and how they all interact

Stress-testing against inflation, market volatility, and longevity

The result isn't just a plan. It's a strategy you can explain, defend, and actually follow.

Fine-tune as life moves

A retirement plan isn't a document you file away.

Life changes — markets shift, tax laws get rewritten, health situations evolve, spending changes, and family dynamics change. A plan that doesn't adapt becomes a liability.

Built into our process are regular, structured reviews.

Your income sources and how they're sequenced

Asset allocation as markets and timelines shift

Your tax picture as laws and withdrawals change

Your goals as life and family dynamics evolve

This is what it means to have an ongoing relationship rather than a one-time transaction.

Team around you

A financial plan is only as strong as the professionals supporting it.

Retirement planning touches tax law, estate planning, healthcare, and legal structure — areas that require specialists. We don't pretend otherwise.

We make sure you're not navigating those relationships alone.

Working alongside your CPA, estate attorney, and other advisors

Connecting you to trusted professionals if those relationships don't exist yet

Coordinating communication across disciplines

Making sure nothing falls through the cracks between advisors

The right team doesn't just protect the plan. It strengthens it.

What you get on the other side.

When you go through the SHIFT process, you come out with more than a plan. You come out with three things that change how retirement actually feels to live:

No pressure.

No more wondering if you've saved enough or if your money will last. You'll have a clear, honest view of your full financial picture — what you have, what you need, and exactly what has to happen to get you there.

Structure for your retirement.

You'll have steady retirement income designed intentionally — not left to chance. You'll know which accounts you're drawing from, in what order, at what tax cost, and how long it's built to last. So when markets move, you can stay the course.

A team by your side.

Retirement is too complex to manage alone. Through the SHIFT process, you gain an ongoing relationship — someone in your corner through every review, adjustment, and life transition. A coordinated team, not a disconnected list of advisors.

Let's chat

Let's start with a conversation.

If anything on this page resonated — the story, the approach, the way we think about this work — I'd like to talk. Just to understand where you are and whether we might be the right fit.

You've done the hard work. Let's make sure it carries you the rest of the way.
